Biography

Jolene with Self Portrait I was raised with 6 brothers and 2 sisters in the town of Methuen, Massachusetts. I attended parochial grammar school and an all-girl Catholic high school. My artistic talent was encouraged in these spheres of education and recognized with awards at the Archdiocese of Boston Art Fairs. At the University of Lowell, studies included Sculpture, "Survey of Art," "Appreciation of the Visual Arts," Drawing, and "Art and the Child." At Merrimack College I studied "The Renaissance and Reformation," "Perspectives on Human Nature," "Symbol, Myth and Ritual," 2 full years of Italian, and History courses with an emphasis on the art of Western Europe. I have studied with area artists such as Photography with Liz Buckley and Rob Littlefield, and Painting with John Parker and Caleb Stone.

In 1988 I made the first of many trips to Italy where I was influenced by the treasures of the Vatican, Ghiberti's Baptistery Doors and the David sculptures of Florence, the mosaics of Palermo and the human forms of Pompeii. My most recent trip included lessons in wine-making and visits to various vinyards in Tuscany. My portraits are realistic and modern. I draw inspiration from travel, my personal life, literature, music and history. My pieces reflect those interests and display human emotion.

I now live with my husband in Haverhill, Massachusetts. In 1997 I was accepted by a jury as a member of the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
