SONGS

At The Coming Of The Lord An entrance hymn for Advent. Taken from Isaiah 40:3-4 and Isaiah 7:14. It is a proclamation and should be done with a strong beat, but neither too quickly nor too loudly, since it is still anticipatory.

Bethlehem This is a Christmas carol adapted from Luke. The fifth verse is actually the refrain from "O Come All Ye Faithful." I have the verse either in Latin or English. It is sung over the regular accompaniment that was used for the rest of the verses. Alternatively, in a congregation, it may be sung by the women or children as a descant at the same time as the 4th verse is being done since the 'venite adoremus' is echoing the same thought as the 4th verse, calling us to come adore the Lord. The midi file is set up to use it as a 5th verse.

Child of Wondrous Love This Advent hymn is done in a minor key. It is meant to be reflective and quiet, using Isaiah 60 as its theme.

Come Lord Jesus, King of Kings This is a Christmas song. I wrote it for a children's celebration although it might work for Midnight Mass, but just the first three verses. The fouth and fifth verses were to celebrate when the three kings come.

From David's City Isaiah 9 and 11 were used for the hymn. It's an all purpose Advent hymn, useful for any of the parts of the Mass where a hymn is desired.

Holy Mary Luke's gospel story of the events leading to the birth of Christ is the inspiration for this hymn set in a traditional folk song style. Though each of the verses has some slight variation the tune is simple enough to allow the congregation to pick it up quickly. It should be done at a moderate tempo with light accompaniment.

The Magnificat This is another Advent hymn, taken from Mary's response to the angel found in Luke 1:36-53. It works well done either softly as a meditative song or more strongly as a proclamation.

O'er The Silence Of The Fields This Advent hymn is the counterpart to the Christmas carol 'Angels We Have Heard On High.' It is a song about joyful expectation. It is a song of hope. (NWC 1.5 format)

The Rose of Sion This is a short hymn with a simple melody. It is an easy Advent song to teach.

When Will The Savior Come This is a reasonably simple song to teach, I have gotten fancy, though, and included a descant that can be found along with an SATB arrangement for choir if you download the NWC file. I would suggest doing the SATB acapella. The descant can be done without the rest of the vocal parts, other than melody. There are 8 very short verses so one could do this as an Advent responsorial psalm, using 2 verses each week. (NWC 1.5 format)
