This link will take you to the home page of American Rivers The AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION actively pursues conservation and political issues affecting the rights of paddlers, including water pollution, usage regulation, and access for recreational boating. America's rivers face threats of destruction or degradation, due to a growing population and encroaching development. Dam projects can turn a free-flowing river into a man-made reservoir, drowning thousands of acres of habitat for river plant and wildlife species. Pollution from cities and agriculture can destroy fish and other water-dependent species and make the water unsafe for recreational use. Riverside development can impair or eliminate the value of the river both for native species and recreational users. We ardently support the efforts of environmental groups to protect the remaining rivers of America. We encourage our visitors to support these organizations, and in particular we urge you to become a member of American Rivers, our nation's premier river protection organization.  Additionally, American Canoe Association is a strong advocate for river conservation issues that affect the rights of paddlers and the quality of the paddling experience. On many of our river pages, we also refer visitors to environmental organizations devoted to that river.
