The "Loon" by Sawyer
The design for the Sawyer Loon, by Verlon Kruger,
is patterned after the canoe he paddled several thousand miles
on some of the most incredible expeditions ever undertaken in a paddle craft.
This is really a hybrid of a canoe and kayak -- the seat is higher than a kayak, and the cockpit quite open, but the decks are enclosed, and steering is accomplished by means of a rudder.
Sawyer made this in both fiberglass and kevlar. It can be paddled either with a single or double blade paddle. The boat performs admirably -- although it is not as fast as a sea kayak, it is rock-solid stable and very comfortable, with enough storage room for all your things!
As far as I know, Sawyer Canoes went out of business several years ago.
