The North Central US is rich in canoeing rivers.  There are really three (or more) distinct regions within this large area.  The Ozark plateau has dozens of streams suitable for canoeing and several of them are ideal for long float trips. The plains states offer some big sky and wide river options, and the forests of the far north boast of many nice float streams.
