PROBLEMS? PLEASE READ...
For whatever reason that I cannot figure out for the life of me, your mileage will vary when viewing this
website. I have visited it from four different computers with four different internet connections, and each
instance produced a different final product. Some images appeared on one visit while the same did not on
another. All plug-ins required to view this site were installed in each instance. So, who knows? In any event,
I think that most people will not have a problem. For those that do have issues, and you figure out how to fix
it, shoot me an e-mail explaining what you did so that I can pass the tip onto others. Thank you...
Why go through all the trouble of designing a personal website?
This website is merely a side project of mine. It began with the desire to broadcast, live via the internet, a scanner
to monitor local law and fire activity while I was at work in Sacramento. After setting the feed up (which required
the use of a website), I realized that I could incorporate my personal weather station using this format, and the
website was born. After several days of contemplating of what I would find useful on a regular basis, I started
adding the contents that exist now. I can now go to my website from anywhere I wish and bring up information that
I may want to obtain. Now, local and regional weather, traffic, road and river conditions are one click away, without
me having to remember the domain names to access them manually.
What can I expect to access here?
I spent some time contemplating what sources would be the most important to me if I needed to go to just one website to
get the most current information that one could get without spending several minutes searching the internet. I feel that I
came up with good collection of third-party information that compliments my own content that I maintain. Besides having
a 24-hour feed of live scanner activity of local agencies and a weather station that updates it's statistics every 10 seconds,
I have found helpful and informative content that would prove the most valuable in a local crisis or disaster and actively
linked them to my site. Without the hard work of the individuals who produced the several maps, graphs, images and
websites found throughout my site, I wouldn't have a lot to show and reference. A great deal of thanks should go to the
fine people who brought their knowledge and experience and put together some of the best resources available online.
Where is Plumas Lake?
Plumas Lake is located in the southwest
part of Yuba County in the Northern Sacramento Valley of California, approximately 30 miles north of the state capital,
Sacramento, and 10 miles south of the county seat, Marysville.
Some of the links or visuals do not work properly. What's wrong?
When I put this together, everything functioned almost flawlessly, with a few exceptions. First off, I highly recommend a
broadband connection. A dial-up connection will result in poor performance with the video feeds and some other visuals.
The online scanner feed seems to work better with a stand-alone player, and I highly recommend downloading Winamp for
computers running Windows, and iTunes for Apple computers running OS X. Both correctly display alpha tag information,
which will allow you to see who you are listening to on the scanner. Currently, this function is not operating, but there are
plans to upgrade the equipment in the near future to support this feature.
The weather alerts that are provided are done manually on my own. They are links to the official alerts from the National
Weather Service. I aim to be as diligent as I can to maintain these and keep them as current as possible. However, as much
as I long to be up and available 24 hours a day, there will be times that I will miss posting these alerts, or updating them.
The forecast map towards the bottom of the Live Weather page is usually up to date. Be sure to refresh your browser to
ensure that you have the latest image and information.
Having your cookies enabled is a big help when visiting the other websites. The Megan's Law website is a good one to try
to see if your computer is accepting cookies. If not, and you don't know how to change your internet options, the page it
sends you to will have an easy explanation on how to enable them.
Final Thoughts...
Please keep in mind that I set up this website orginally for myself. However, since every thing actively linked through these
pages are public domain, I did not take the time to "copyright" this website. Use what you wish from here on your site or blog.
This website will probably remain under heavy construction for the months to come, with some features being replaced with
others. I hope that those who do stumble across this website enjoy the features and information that it links to, and I HIGHLY
recommend visiting the parent sites of the third-party material. They usually have so much more to explore to build upon what
I already introduced to you.
As the text points out as a disclaimer on the
bottom of each page, do not make important decisions based on any of the info accessed. That pretty much goes with anything
available on the internet.
