Then, a young boy, a microscope, a set of prepared slides,
  Bacteria, bugs, ...  blood.
  But many things not seen, imagination fills in.
  Visions and images waited three decades to develop.
Now, new optics.
  All is revealed.

Clockwise from upper left: 1) Home built microscope from damaged optics (objectives originally used in high power laser, they still work fine for visual use.) Note box of 60 Sears Prepared Slides, from about 1970 - 1975. 2) Human blood cells at high magnification (600X). 3) Snake blood cells, same mag. Snakes got big cells! 4) Marine diatoms, (200X)

In the future, I hope to include shots of live critters from pond water. For now, I'm amazed at how well these slides have survived the passage of time! I suspect though that all the bacteria samples have decomposed, I can't find any so far.
