I believe that The
Cryan' Shames
are the best Chicago area band to appear from the late 1960's. The
Shames were noted for their vocal harmonies, song writing,
entertaining stage shows, as well as their great music. The Cryan'
Shames had a loyal fan base that followed their concerts to the
various teen dance clubs throughout the Chicagoland area. The Shames'
lead vocalist is Tom Doody, also known as TOAD, always seems to make
personal contact with the audience and makes them feel like personal
friends. Jim Pilster, nicknamed J. C. HOOKE, is the band's jester,
dancer, singer, and tambourine player extraordinaire. He spins,
tosses, twirls and throws his tambourine while never missing a beat.
Hooke's latest trademark move is to kick a cymbal that is at least six
feet off of the floor, of course it is in time with the music. The
song writers of The Cryan' Shames included Jim Fairs, Lenny Kerley,
Isaac Guillory, and Dave Carter. |
