Welcome!

The Muskegon County Emergency Communication Service  ( M.C.E.C.S.) group is comprised of volunteer licensed amateur (ham) radio operators who have expressed an interest in providing communication service primarily to the public safety organizations. As training towards the real thing we support charitable organizations in activities such as walkathons, bike races and other charitable actives such as March of Dimes.

One of the primary missions of ham radio is public service providing communications support in disasters. Hams have been responsible for saving countless lives in times of disaster when traditional means of communications may be overloaded or nonfunctional. This has been proven time and again, as the latest events on September 11, 2001 and Hurricane Katina have shown.

With the advent of Homeland Security directives, the need for Amateur Radio Emergency Communication and public service support is greater than ever. While our group primarily is tasked with service to Muskegon County, Michigan citizens, we coordinate with other Michigan Counties, the State and ultimately federal organizations. The prerequisite to join is simple hold a valid Amateur Radio license and have the desire to help the public in time of need. Most training is done free of charge. A basic 2 meter radio is all you need to get started.
