My father, Joe Ritz, always told stories of his days in the South Pacific during WWII, so I asked him to write down everything he could remember. For awhile I heard nothing, or he said he was still working on it. Then one day he presented me with a large envelope containing 79 pages of manuscript written in cursive longhand. I've transcribed his notes and the results are below. They're organized into chapters and some minor edits were made, but otherwise the text is exactly as he wrote it.
