At the high School level
unforced errors outnumber winners by a 5 to 1 margin. Hitting winners
is a lot of fun but reducing errors will improve your winning
percentage a whole lot more.
More tennis
matches are lost through unforced errors rather than won through
winners.
Here is a drill to improve
consistency.
The purpose of this drill is to help you develop
deeper
groundstrokes
This drill takes 2 people. The goal of this drill is
to hit
groundstrokes beyond the service line.
If any groundstroke lands before the service
line you
must
stop
and start completely over.
The drill is simple, see how many balls you can keep
in
play.
Set a number goal and try to beat it.
20 is a good number to start with, that means you
have to
hit 10
groundstrokes and so does your partner
.
Remember if your error rate is less than 10%, you
should be able to hit 10 groundstrokes in a row
