Match Reports
  • Focus on your match. Put aside distractions and focus on winning. You should devote all your attention to your match - no exceptions
  • Observe your opponent during the warm-up  - what are her strengths?  What are her weaknesses? Does she have a weak backhand? Plan your strategy accordingly. It is better to “win ugly” by playing a smart match than “lose pretty.”  For example  if your opponent has better ground strokes than you, don't get into trading pretty ground strokes. Moon ball her or rush the net occasionally, do something to break up her rhythm.  If you have better ground strokes , then baseline rallies are what you want
  • Look for your coach at changeovers. Listen to his input. Feel free to add your input. If a change in strategy is called for, make sure you understand what to do and then go do it.
  • Always change a losing game.  This does not mean radical changes. Most times just minor adjustments are called for. By the same token  -  Never change a winning game.
  • Work as a team in doubles. Make your partner look good and she will love playing with you. Everyone has a bad day sooner or later. Encourage your partner when she is having one. After all she is not deliberately losing points.   Talk to her between every point and keep up her spirits.
  • Do not leave the courts after your match is over. Stay and encourage your teammates who are still playing. A five minute trip to the clubhouse is fine, but your focus should be your teammates and not anyone else (this includes family and friends)
