Murdock Family

This photograph is of my grandmother Leola Erna Murdock and her twin brother Harry Murdock taken in Colonial Beach, Virginia circa 1910.  They are the children of James E. Murdock and Sarah Priscilla Henderson Murdock, of Charles County Maryland. 

My Murdock line descends from John Murdock and his wife Elizabeth Sanders, through James E. Murdock (b. 8-12-1858, in Charles County Md.). James E. Murdock married  Priscilla Sarah Henderson (b. 3-11-1861, in Charles County Md.) on 11-10-1883, in Charles County. They had four children that I know of, my grandmother Leola Erna Murdock and her twin brother Harry L. Murdock (b. 8-23-1889), James "Albert" Murdock (b. 10-07-1890) and Russell I. Murdock (b.3-26-1899). I have no information regarding birth, marriage or death dates for either John Murdock or his wife Elizabeth Sanders, both of whom I presume were from Charles Co. Md.

2.  JAMES EDWARD² MURDOCK (JOHN¹) was born August 12, 1858 in Charles County, Maryland, and died May 04, 1934 in Spring Grove Hospital, Catonsville, Baltimore County, Maryland.  He married PRISCILLA SARAH HENDERSON November 10, 1883 in Nanjemoy, Charles County, Maryland, daughter of ISAAC HENDERSON and SARAH JONES.  She was born March 11, 1861 in Charles County, Maryland, and died February 25, 1934 in Charles County, Maryland.

5.  LEOLA ERNA³ MURDOCK (JAMES EDWARD², JOHN¹) was born August 23, 1889 in Charles County, Maryland, and died March 03, 1973 in Montgomery County, Maryland.  She married GEORGE BRADFORD DAVIS December 25, 1913 in Home of James Murdock,  Charles County, Maryland, son of JAMES DAVIS and SARAH HOLT.  He was born February 07, 1881 in Charles County, Maryland, and died March 03, 1919 in Charles County, Maryland.

Notes for GEORGE BRADFORD DAVIS:

Death Certificate states that bate of birth is Feb. 7 1881. It also lists George as being an employee at Indian Head and a farmer. The Death Certificate lists his father James L. Davis the informant of his death.

 

George was said to be a waterman in addition to the occupations listed on the Death Certificate.  He was partially bald (male pattern baldness) and sported a mustache in the only photo available to this writer. This writer was told that George had caught pneumonia after falling overboard fishing nets on the Potomac and that was what lead to his untimely death. The Death Certificate does not bear this out as it lists the cause of death as tuberculosis, which was very common at that time. His first son James Russell Davis preceded him in death at the age of 11 months. (DOD 07-27-16)
