Attached is a current copy of the "Resource List". Optional topics are listed alphabetically at the end. You should try to have your speakers scheduled at least three meetings ahead. The sooner you schedule them, the more likely they are to be available.

PLEASE CONSIDER THE LOCATION OF THE MEETING WHEN SCHEDULING SPEAKERS

WHEN YOU CALL--YOU NEED TO:

  1. Identify yourself as a Group Leader with the Beaumont Hospital Parenting Program
  2. Specify the day, date and time you are inquiring about
  3. Tell the speaker the anticipated location (city)
  4. Tell them the approximate number of families attending
  5. Tell them the baby age range at the meeting time
  6. Give them your name and phone number
  7. Verify their address for mailing the flyer to them
  8. Ask them to call in advance if a problem arises and they will be unable to fulfill this commitment
  9. If the speaker is another Parenting Volunteer, confirm that she will bring the handouts or if she would like you to bring them.
  10. Thank them for their time

Always remember to send a copy of the flyer to the speaker well in advance of meeting.

Always try to confirm the engagement with the speaker 1-2 days before the meeting. Make sure they have received the flyer and understand the map. Also discuss with the speaker whether she wants to start speaking right away, or can wait until you finish the business portion of the meeting.

Remember to introduce yourself to the speaker when they arrive, offer them a drink and introduce the speaker to the group. She can add any background information she wishes to share with the group.  If the speaker is a volunteer, make certain that the group realizes she is here as a volunteer and a mom, and is speaking primarily from her personal experience.

A WRITTEN THANK YOU SHOULD BE SENT to all speakers who are not BPP staff. GROUP MEMBERS WHO MISS A MEETING should be sent a copy of the handouts. They really appreciate this courtesy.
