Note: Please bear with me, I just got my server software up and running,
so this is still in the building phase :) But any ideas/suggestions are
greatly appreciated. Now on to the FAQ........
Q> What's all this MB, DJ, CJ, TJ, YJ, XJ, ZJ stuff I see in the
newsgroups?
A> They are vehicle designations given to the various models
by the auto maker.
Q> Okay, so what do they mean?
A> MB=Military version of the Jeep.
DJ=Delivery version of the Jeep,
such as the postal Jeep.
CJ-2 through CJ-8 were the civilian
versions of the universally praised Jeep. Whenever Jeep made a change to
the model, they changed the number
designator after the CJ.
YJ=What came to be referred to
as the Yuppie Jeep. Square headlights and all. A more refined Jeep
for the
masses. Still the same basic running
gear with a few updates for comfort.
TJ= The latest (and according
to those who have them, greatest) incarnation of the Jeep. Back to the
original
round headlights, but a major
upgrade to the suspension with the advent of coil springs on all four corners.
No
more buggy springs for the new
generation.
XJ/ZJ=The new versions of the
venerable Cherokee/Wagoneer line of Jeep vehicles.
Q> What's the best Jeep?
A> It all depends on what you want to do with it and your needs.
Q> What's the largest tire I can fit on my Jeep?
A> It all depends on which Jeep you have. You can pretty much
get away with a 31x10.50" tire on all the CJ/YJ/TJ series without having
to perform any major modifications, though you will probably have to adjust
your wheel stops to keep the tire from rubbing on the spring pack.
Q> What are some must have items for when
I'm on the trail?
A> Remember now, these are just my ideas here..
Hi-Lift Jack, because it's so
much more than just a jack
Full size spare
Tow-strap
CB radio (cell phones are nice,
but sometimes in the boonies, you can't connect to a transceiver!)
First Aid kit (well stocked)
Q> Where can I find out more info about Jeep's in general?
A> Check out my jeep links page for starters
:)
The Newsgroups (check with
your isp on how to connect to Usenet) are a good place to start as well
I'd recommend:
rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys (some great people in here!)
rec.autos.4x4
If there are any questions you've got that aren't here, just send them
to me and I'll post them right on up, or if I've got some info wrong, definitely
let me know!! Email me
