Greetings and welcome to my newest addition. After an absence of a few years I am back to being a Jeeper once again.
Jeep

Here's a pic of my new toy on the beach down at Corrolla on the NC Outer Banks two days after Bonnie blew through. She did pretty good on that soft sand even with the factory tires on it.

Stay tuned for some shots in the future of some local mud holes and doing a little two-tracking up in George Washnigton National Park.

The new baby is a '87 Jeep Wrangler. It has the 4.2L (258 cubic inches) inline 6 cylinder, a 5 speed transmission, NP231 chain driven transfer case. Currently it's only got 235/75 all terrain tires on it, but they are coming off this weekend and going to 31x10.50 BFG Mud T/A's. That's the biggest thing I can stuff in the fenders until it get's it's Explorer Pro-Comp 4" suspension lift come spring time. (Have to make sure there is food on the table after all!!).. As promised, here is one shot from up in the George Washington National Forest. We went up just to take in the overlooks and well, we wound up coming across several open (can you believe that!!) Forest Service roads and since they weren't marked as closed (there were several of those too though!!) away we went. Being a die-hard CJ'er from years back, I was wondering just what the "Yuppie" YJ was capable of, axle disconnect and all.. I must say I was impressed. It handled everything the hillside threw at us with ease, even with the "wimpy" 235/75 street treads on it. I'm really looking forward to heading back once the BFG's are in place this week.. This shot doesn't show just how steep and slick this trail was, but it was definitely fun!!

Well that's all for now.. keep checking back to see how the baby grows up and for information on local places to go four wheeling at..

I'm back... Upgrades so far consist of 30x9.50x15 BFG Mud T/A's. I decided to go with those instead of the 31's since it is an 12 yr old jeep and I know the springs have some sag. Even with only 30's, there is a bit of tire rub on the spring pack at full turn. A bit of tuning and tweaking, the 4.2 is really doing good. So far it's made a trip to West Virginia (New River Rec area), a trip to the George Washington NF (oh my god...and they think they only have slickrock out west!!) and several excursions right down to the Outer Banks of NC..Anybody who wants to run down there, drop me a line, I'm always up for a day of beach running!!! Here's a pic from last Sunday down at Corolla Beach.

Oopppsss almost forgot one of the most important upgrades.. The Mark Martin Valvoline Flag!! Which of course is now out of date! Just cant bring myself to putting a Viagra flag on the jeep though!!!

Since the last time I updated this page, the ole YJ has done a lil bit of growing :) She now sports a Superlift 3-1/2" lift, with 33x12.50 ProComp mudders underneath a set of Xenon extended flares.

At 220,000 miles the ole 258 finally gave up, the choke linkage broke while I was on a roadtrip back down to Md, which wound up making the engine overrich and burnt two pistons. So it was off to Neco for a rebuilt 258. Mods to the engine now include a 4.0 head, Borla header, Weber carb and an ignition system upgrade getting the computer out of the loop.
