The Bags of Gold
Westerville, Ohio - The Pioneer Crew swept up at a pot of Gold at the Columbus Crew Classic in Westerville, Ohio on Saturday, October 7, 2006. Continuing their domination of Fall Racing the Varsity Crew brought home medals in 8 of 12 events entered.
The Pioneer's coming off the first local regatta with a dominating performance where very confidant traveling to Ohio to compete against 11 other High School and Club teams. Head Coach and Varsity Men's Coach, Rich Griffith had his boys ready and eager to put in top performances. While Varsity Women's Coach, Mike Dove had the girls confident that they could continue to perform at the highest level.
The Varsity Women where the first to race and the women put down a course record to win their event. The Second Varsity women won their race in convincing fashion while putting in a time that would have them placed fourth in the Varsity Women's Division.
The Varsity Men put in a blistering time to break the course record also, but the Westerville boys came down and shattered the record with aid of a tail wind. Both teams felt strongly about their performances and agreed to race in the Varsity Men's Four Event with their top rowers to settle the grudge match between the Teams. The Second Varsity Men meanwhile brought home Gold in their race showing the depth of the men's squad.
The Men's Varsity Four Event had a tinge of excitement as the Varsity Men went out to settle the score. Once again the Pioneers put in a fine performance, but the Westerville boys came back and took the event. They both are looking forward to meeting again in a couple weeks at the Jack Speakmon Regatta. A great rivalry is going on between them with great sportsmanship amongst the rowers.
The Women Varsity Four was the last race of the day and the Pioneer Girls just put a stamp on the event by coming in one, two, three and sweeping Gold, Silver and Bronze, just an unheard of a performance.
The Pioneer Crew once again looks like to the Highs School to beat in the Michigan and Ohio region. The Novice Crews Headed by Women's Novice Coach, Crystal Culp and Men's Novice Coach, Andy Forbing are slowly putting together quality novice rowers. They have been performing in the top ten of their events and hope to have a breakout performance soon.

FALL SEASON 2006
PIONEER CREW DOMINATES ARGO CHALLENGE

Crowds watch the racing on Argo Pond.
Ann Arbor , Michigan. - The Fall season kicked off on Saturday, September 30, 2006 with the Argo Challenge on Argo Pond. Pioneer, Huron and Saline High Schools participated in the event. The event allowed the local high school rowers a chance to tune up for racing in October while giving the community a chance to see the quality of our crews.
The Pioneers dominated the event winning 10 of the 12 races and showing that they have not lost much from last year. While this is only a tune up, the Pioneer's have bragging rights to the Pond.
The Varsity Men and Women did not lose a single event and should have even more depth than last season when they happen to dominate State rowing. We realize that the bar has been raised for our rowers, but they are ready to sacrifice for the team goals. We also have one of the largest turnouts for the team in recent years, with 91 rowers. A very large Novice squad has added excitement for the future of Pioneer Rowing. Great racing and a fun event made for many happy rowers from Huron, Saline and Pioneer.

Ann Arbor , Michigan. - The Fall Season is under way and we will have our first regatta with Huron and Saline. To those of you that read this I will let you in on some news. This will be my last year with the Pioneer Crew. I have told Rich that he should start looking for a replacement. I find it difficult to walk away from something that has been dear to me and while I still have a passion for rowing I will finally make the break from Pioneer. I certainly hope to continue coaching, but will have to see what opportunities await me.
I have exceeded my goals and will cherish the moments we have all had. Placing third at the USRowing Youth Championship was certainly a highlight I will keep with me, along with a Podium finish at the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Championship and winning the Hebda Cup (State Championship). The great crews, great rowers and great people have made this time together extraordinary.
I have such great rowers this year that it will be hard not to see them finish their senior year and be apart of their success. I hope I have provided the guidance that will allow them to continue to be Winners! I have such high hopes and expectations for the rowers this year and I will hopefully see them on the Podium many times during the fall and spring.
