Eastern Bluebird
(Sialia sialis)
6/6/2006
I have been trying to get a decent Bluebird photo for years with no
luck ... until now. These elusive little birds tease me by sitting
on the corners of our roof while searching for food. Recently, while
set up to photograph Tufted Titmice and Carolina Chickadees, a male
bluebird suddenly appear in my viewfinder. He sat on the perch for a
few seconds and then was gone. It happened again a few weeks later.

This photo was taken from a distance of 10 ft. as this male bluebird rested on a perch I had set up on my deck.

Pam spotted a female bluebird on the deck railing with three
fledglings. She was apparently giving them flying/foraging lessons. By
the time I got my camera these two were the only ones left. They were
about 20 ft. away.

This little guy seemed very curious about Pam's starter plugs for her flower seeds. He might have been trying to get a drink.

As I was taking chickadee close-ups today, from about 4 ft.,
this male bluebird landed on my perch. He hopped around a bit and
shifted his position, as if to pose for me. He was not bothered at all
by the noise my camera was making as it clunked away in burst mode.

This is the classic "looking down to scan the ground for bugs" pose.

One final profile pose and then he was gone.
