Pipevine Swallowtail
(Battus philenor)

7/20/2006

The Pipevine Swallowtail is a very flighty butterfly that never seems to stop flapping its wings, even while feeding. This makes them difficult to photograph. The exception seems to be when visiting petunias. Then this butterfly would dive deeply right into the tubular flower and remain motionless long enough for me to get these photos.
