Commodore PET Troubleshooting

Welcome to 6540ROM.com

I currently have two products for sale on this site. The first is an adapter to replace the 6540 ROMs in Commodore PET 2001 computers with standard 2716 EPROMs (shown below). The second is a tin adapter which allows a Commodore PET to put out standard composite video. Please see the links on the left for more information and to order.

4-9-2012 I am releasing a new product called an EPROM Programmer Universal Adapter. This special adapter will allow you to read almost any vintage EPROM or PROM. Read all abou it here.

3-7-2011 I have ordered another batch of boards for video adapters and so they are once again available for sale on this site and on eBay. However, due to rising parts and shipping prices I regret to have to announce that the price for video adapters will be $25 each from now on. Of course, free shipping, support, and a lifetime guarantee are still included.

1-5-2011 Due to excellent sales of the video adapters, I now have an overstock of the parts for the ROM adapters. I need to reduce my stock, so I am offering a sale. For a limited time only ROM adapters are availiable for only $25 each. However, when my current stock is gone so is this sale.

9-5-2010 All of the adapters are again for sale! I have finished my move across the country from Seattle to Boston. My Commodore and most of the rest of my electronics testing and assembly equipment moved with me, so I am set to build these again. Please don't hesitate to email me directly or to check out my eBay auctions.

6-18-10 Unfortunately, I have to cease sales of all adapters until September. I have graduated from the University of Washington with my Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and I am going to be driving across the country this summer before settling in Boston where I will be attending MIT. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

12-12-09 It has come to my attention that my Commodore PET ROM adapters may not work in board location H5, H6, and H7 in all Commodore PET 2001 computers. Please read the service bulletin here for details for details

11-19-09 I have gotten in a new shipment of 2716 ROMS. The next batch of adapters will ship with vintage (c)1977 genuine Intel 2716's! These vintage ROMS looks great in a vintage PET.

9-16-09 The video adapters page has been updated to include pictures and schematics.

3-13-09 Site is updated to include order and 6540 ROM adapter pages.

3-12-09 The first PT composite video mixer is built and works well.

3-11-09 The first 6540 ROM adapter is built and it works perfectly! It is about 0.4" taller than the old chip which is slimmer than my first calculations. A lot more info is coming soon.

3-10-09 Site is on line.

If there is sufficient demand I think that I can an similar adapter for 6550 RAM. If you are interested, please contact me and let me know. If I get enough such requests I will go ahead and invest the time and money to do the design and prototype.

Finally, if you have any suggestions, comments, ideas, etc, please contact me at meda...@comcast.net I would love to know if there is anyone out there who has actually seen this page!

About me:
My name is Matthew D'Asaro and I designed these adapters when I was a student of electrical engineering at the University of Washington. I have been interested in vintage computers ever since I was in grade school. I designed these adapters to replace ROM chips which I pulled out of an old commodore pet motherboard when I was about six years old and then lost (or ate, I really don't remember.) Besides computers, I restore antique radios and televisions. I am 7jp4-guy on antiqueradios.com and my callsign is KE7SJE.
