Duties off the Field
Most men see the on-site NCO functions and think this is the whole story. They do not realize that the most demanding work ofNCOs in a reenactment company occurs off field. Their duties consist mostly of maintaining contact with their superiors and subordinates and preparing for events.
1. Equipment - Tents, cooking gear, etc., belonging to the company are often more easily accounted for and transported when assigned to the section corporals or the platoon sergeants. They are responsible for storing and taking care of this equipment and assuring that it is delivered to an event as necessary.
2. Meals - Many units find it advantageous to cook as a company instead of individuals. In this case the First Sergeant (lSGT) typically will assign each Section the responsibility for preparing and cooking one meal. It is the responsibility of each section to have hot, soapy water and hot rinse water for washing. Each section is responsible for cleaning the pots, pans, and other company gear used in preparing the meals. The men are responsible for washing their own plates and utensils. All company gear used for cooking shall be cleaned promptly and returned ready for use.
