Medich's Battalion Guard Mount
Duties of the First Sergeant
1. Upon arriving in camp, contact the Major, Adjutant, or
Sgt. Maj. For orders, Morning Report fonn, and Guard Mount Roster.
2. Complete your Guard Mount Roster and Morning Report immediately after Revile and turn them in to Headquarters BEFORE 1 st Sgt. Call. It is recommended that you ask for voilUlteers and not use Guard Mount as a punishment. Keep a copy of your Guard Mount Roster for yourself. Fill in every line without assigning a person twice; I-Sgt. (not you), I-Cpl., 12-Pvt., and 3-Substitute Pvt. If your roster is short and men arrive late, notify the Sgt. Maj.
3. Report to Headquarters at 1st Sgt. Call (the fIrst drum or bugle call after Revile).
4. Report with your men to Guard Mount. March them to Headquarters in 2 ranks in light marching order, and have them double quick to their posts when their name is called. Write down the Relief time for each man.
5. It is the duty of the 1st Sgt. to have every Relief (or a substitute) report on time and in light marching order for duty a Headquarters for their 2 hour shift.
6. When possible they will be assigned to the Relief you assigned on the Roster. However, this is not always possible when you are consolidated with another company.
7. Relief times for Sgt. and Cpl. of the Guards will be assigned by the Sgt. Maj.
8. For night Reliefs, have your Sgt. or Cpl. of the Guards report to Headquarters with a lantern or candle.
