St. Mary's is an active, contemporary
church community steeped in history and tradition.
“All work and no play makes
Jack a dull boy, or at least that’s what my
grandmother said a long time ago", states
Father Bill. That said, there is also a family
side to life in the local church. That side of
our life together has several different avenues
of expression. If you have an interest in any
of these activities, call the Church
Office at 410-569-0180
for current contact information.
Saint Mary’s Youth Group
meets weekly in the Educational Building on Sunday
afternoons at 4:30 pm. The SMYG
is comprised of middle and senior high students,
who may or may not make their church home here
at Saint Mary’s. The group usually begins with
devotions, enjoys a simple supper together, and
fairly autonomously plans and carries out its
own projects and programs (under modest adult
supervision), including lock-ins. The SMYG looks
to provide young people with a safe and wholesome
environment in which to build healthy relationships
with each other and their community. The contact
people for the SMYG are Vickie
Idzik and Pam Butler.
The Women of St. Mary’s (WoSM) group is dedicated to the service of St. Mary’s parish, our local community, and the broader family of the Episcopal Church. All women who are members in good standing of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church are, by that fact, also members of the WoSM. The group meets regularly on the third Thursday of each month, from September through May, at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall building. Every year the WoSM raises funds and chooses 8-10 local non-profit groups to receive 10 percent of the WoSM’s “income” for the year. In order to keep its female parishioners apprised of the various WoSM activities for each month, the group publishes a monthly newsletter. The President of the WoSM is Amy Parker.
The Second Wednesday Luncheon
is hosted by the Women of Saint Mary’s and provides
an occasion for senior citizens to gather for
worship, entertainment, and luncheon. There is
a celebration of the Holy Communion at 10:45am
in the great hall of the educational building
(which is handicap accessible), a program at 11:15am
with the meal being served at noon. A free-will
offering is received to offset to cost of the
meal.
SECOND
WEDNESDAY LUNCHEON
The
monthly Fellowship Luncheon will be held in the
Great Hall of the Educational Building on Wednesday
morning. Holy communion will be celebrated
at 10:45 a.m. with a program to follow at 11:00.
Lunch will be served at noon. Lunch is $2.00 for
adults and kids eat free. Please sign up for reservations
on the tract table, or call Esther at 410-838-3484.
We need to know if you are coming in order to
prepare enough food. Bring a friend or your grandkids.
Mark your calendars
now for the --- and ---- Luncheons.
The Lunch Bunch is, quite
simply, a group that likes to gather for lunch
and sample the cuisine of local eating establishments.
Dutch treat is the rule for the day for the first
Tuesday of each month. This group is, “just for
fun”. Ann Weaver
can provide you with all the information you might
need.
The Men’s Breakfast gathers
in the kitchen at 8:30 am each fourth Saturday
and fulfills a multiplicity of roles. The “honey
do” list circulates from the Sunday School,
to the Women’s Group, to the churchwardens, and
then to the Men’s Breakfast. Odd jobs and routine
maintenance are the rule of the day. Some just
come for breakfast and conversation, while others
disperse after the meal to accomplish their chosen
tasks. Their efforts relieve the pressure on the
operating budget, keep the church grounds, and
perform routine maintenance as well as providing
an avenue for men to tithe of their skills and
talents. Oh yes, before you ask, an occasional
female has been known to show up; and they are
greeted cordially and welcomed to the table. Either
of the churchwardens can provide you with further
information.

Remember
the 4th
Saturday of each month
is our meeting time. Now that Spring has
sprung, there will be much to do. Also,
warm weather means that mowing time is back,
and the sign-up sheet for mowers is out.
We will supply the toys, you supply the
time and the talent.
Saturday not a good day? The "Honey Do"
list will be reappearing in the Great Hall.
Just pick your project, and you set the
time. Churchwardens will coordinate access
and materials.

Dinner at Eight is a small
group of folks who gather once each month at one
of their homes to share a meal and fellowship.
The dinners are pot-luck, with each person making
a contribution to the meal. The location and the
menu are rotated in such a way as not to be burdensome
to any particular individual. Alma
Schwanke is the coordinator for this
group.
