Coming Too Quickly –

Salvation Army Christmas Project -

1)   We need small toys for 50 Christmas stockings - games, puzzles, crayons, coloring books (can be rolled) dolls, cars, personal items, school stuff, stuffed animals, etc.

2) Also we need shirts for school size 4 to 16.  Sweat shirts, flannel shirts, polos, t’s broadclothe, etc..  Collection dates 29 Nov and 13 Dec.  Watch the bulletin for further directions.             Start shopping.

The Women of St. Mary’s have 2-Year Calendars (2010-2011) available for sale for the cost of $2.00.  They are on the tract table at the rear of the Church and there will be some also in the Parish Hall.  There are four designs available and they make nice gifts.  Questions:  Sallie Parker, 410 838-3677

The Tuesday Lunch Bunch will meet at Noon at Broom’s Bloom on December 1st.  A sign -up sheet is on the tract table.

Clickers Anonymous
The response to the Survey has been excellent!  Thank you to all who have taken the time to help plan for St. Mary's future.  You are now part of Clickers Anonymous.  If you are that one person who might procrastinate, you have one more week to register your response.

Advent Workshop Today, from 2 – 4 p.m.

If you have not signed up, but wish to participate, please contact Mary Jane immediately following the 9am service. If you are an 11 O’clocker, see her in her office immediately after service!

Sale of St. Mary’s Church Note Cards:  A table will be set up in Parish Hall on November 29 after the 9 a.m. service for the sale.  Cards are $3.50 for a packet of 10.

Thanksgiving Altar  Fresh fruits and vegetable are needed to decorate the Altar for the Thanksgiving services.  Donations should be brought to church or the office by Wed, Nov 25 at 9 a.m.  Following Thursday’s service the produce will be taken to Mann House in Bel Air, a halfway house for recovering addicts.

Women of St. Mary’s News:  The WoSM is providing the goodies for the reception following the First Holy Communion Service on November 29th.  We need baked goods (delivered to the Parish Hall kitchen up until 3:30 p.m. on the day of the service).  Cookies, brownies, etc. that can be put on a napkin and don't require a fork.  Please LABEL all donations "FIRST COMMUNION RECEPTION".  We need several helpers to set up the table and put all the donated goodies on serving platters, mix the punch, serve the punch, and clean up afterward.  These helpers should report to the kitchen no later than 3:30 p.m.  Thanks for any help you can give us!  Point of contact is Sally LaBarre (sallylabarre@gmail.com).

Leaf Cleanup Day- Saturday December 5th at 8:30

We are in need of the congregation’s help with the huge task of cleaning up the leaves in the cemetery area. We need anyone that can help rake leaves for any amount time. Bring your rake and gloves.   We begin with breakfast is at 8:30 a.m. and a light lunch will be served at noon.

We are also in need of (2) tractors that will be pulling tarps full of the leaves from the cemetery area to the leaf pile. This is a critical part of the clean up process, the more tractors we have the quicker we finish, right now we only have one tractor to pull tarps of leaves which will make it impossible for us to finish. If you bring your tractor you will have an easy job.....driving your tractor around all morning. Any questions please contact the church wardens Aaron, Dave L or Dave B.

                                                Thank you,

                                                Aaron Mullenax

HO!  HO!! HO!!!  IT’S CHRISTMAS!!

It’s time!  The Women of St. Mary’s has received the names of 16 families who have requested help this Christmas season.  Mason-Dixon Community Services has, as usual, provided us with families, and the Office on Aging has taken on the job of identifying seniors who need help.

St. Mary’s Youth Group has asked to be allowed to take on the responsibility for one complete family, and thus they will be purchasing gifts for the parents and all six children in Family #9, as well as providing Christmas dinner and bags of perishable food.  We are please with their offer of generosity and good will.

The ten remaining families with children leave the parish with 25 children, seven single mothers and three sets of parents.  We are pleased to report there are a goodly number of working parents, and one mother who is going to school at HCC as well as holding down a job.  One mother has three jobs.  Another is working full time at Lorien Bel Air, so you may have seen her there sometime.

Most of the children are young (under 12) and nearly all live in the Edgewood-Aberdeen area.  It seems there are numerous grandmothers who watch the children while the parents work.  They do not live in the home.

The seniors are all women this year. And their needs are basically food-related.  Each has a different story which leads to her needing our help.

The list of gifts has been on the church tract table since Nov 22nd.  Since gifts are expensive and we have a lot of folks to serve, you may want to choose a single gift or two instead of a “whole child”.  Please feel free to sign for as much or as little as your wallet dictates.

I suggest you bring paper and pencil to jot down the name, family number, gift item, and size (if applicable) as it is impossible to remember it all.  Also some of the names are quite unusual, i.e., Aalyah, Azureat, and Omaree, and we really do not want to spell them incorrectly.

Gifts are due by December 13th.  Each gift should be wrapped separately, labeled with the family number and recipient’s name.  All gifts are from Santa Claus, and should be placed on the counter in the kitchen.  Please do not be late in delivering your gift - we need to have all the gifts in order to pack up the family’s bags.

Of your gift is clothing, it would be good to enclose a gift slip or sales slip so it might be exchanged if it doesn’t fit.

Please be generous with your donation on non-perishable food.   There are lots of hungry children on our list.  Food began being collected Nov 22nd in the Parish House lobby and at the rear of the church.  All food is due by December 13th.  Include canned fruits, fruit juices, vegetables, jellies, as well as cereals, crackers, soups, pasta, sauces, paper products and all kinds of things you use at home.  Baby food for one-year olds is acceptable, too.

As usual, the Fish Bowl will be available for your cash and checks.  We use the money for food, utility and medical expenses, and rent.  This is a convenient way to participate if you are not a shopper.

There is one last item.  If you have an unused 20", 16" or smaller bike you are willing to part with, there are three little girls who would love to ride them.

For any information, donation, or for questions, call Esther at 410 838-3484.

We ask a lot of you and you always come through.  Thank you once again.

Open dates available for volunteers to host Coffee Hour – check the schedule in the kitchen.   It is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet and match those appreciative faces with names.  It is great time for fellowship.  Coffee and tea are the must items.  Edible treats are appreciated.   You can individualize it … celebrate a birthday, holiday, anniversary or other event … and you get to bask in the accolades!    Co-Hosts are welcome!  (Any questions ask Rita Gribbell or Jill Wiggan.)

Rectory Repairs Update:
The church wardens are in the process of developing a "preliminary cost estimate of repairs" for the purpose developing the 2010 church budget. This current cost estimate is at $61,200. We stress that this is only a "preliminary" cost estimate for budget purposes only. Once the 2010 church budget is approved and we know what monies are available and when these monies can be utilized we will then get bids from contractors for a more accurate cost estimate. There will be certain scope items that we will have contractors perform and other items that we will request support from the congregation. We are in the very early stages of this work and we will continue to update the congregation as we move forward and as the budget develops. If there are any questions please feel free to ask.

Regarding the Services:

A sitter and aides for pre-school children are on duty in the educational building (lower floor) during the 9 AM & 11 AM services.

The 8:00 a.m. service is The Holy Communion from the Book of Common Prayer 1928. Books are on the small table at the rear of the church. The service begins on page 67 and follows consecutively. The collect and lessons are printed elsewhere in the bulletin.

The 9 & 11:00 a.m. service orders are printed in this bulletin. Both are taken from The Authorized Book of Common Prayer. Music for the services, unless otherwise noted, is from the Hymnal 1982. Both of these books are in the pew racks. Page numbers for the prayer book and hymnal are printed in the Order of Service. The Propers (the collect for the day and the lessons) are printed in full elsewhere in this bulletin.

Regarding the Receipt of Communion: All those who are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who are in good conscience, and who recognize the presence of Christ in the Eucharist are invited and encouraged to come forward and receive the Holy Communion. We receive in both kinds (bread and wine) the host in the hand and from the common cup. Intinction (the dipping of the host into the cup) is an acceptable practice. If you wish to receive neither from the cup nor by Intinction, simply cross your arms on your chest, the chalice bearer will pass you by.

To receive a Blessing: Those not wishing to receive the sacrament, younger children and those not baptized, may come to the rail to receive a blessing. They should kneel, fold their arms across their chest, and bow their head.

Saint Mary's Church is an historic building on the National and Harford County Registers of Historic Places. Modern conveniences and facilities are located across Saint Mary's Church Road in the Educational Building.
