Faith is a journey not a destination. |

- Are you in grades
6th-12th?
- Do you have free time on Sunday
afternoons?
- Do you like going to lock-ins
and bowling?
If this sounds like you, you should consider joining the Saint Mary's Youth Group (SMYG). |
The Youth Group allows you to have fun
while connecting to your church. |
Saint Mary's
Youth Group meets weekly in the Great Hall / Educational
Building on Sunday afternoons 12 noon to 2:00 pm.
SMYG is comprised of middle and senior
high students who may or may not make their
church home here at Saint Mary's. The group
usually begins with devotions, enjoys a simple
lunch together, and fairly autonomously plans
and carries out its own projects and programs
(under modest adult supervision), including
lock-ins. SMYG looks to provide young
people with a safe and wholesome environment
in which to build healthy relationships with
each other and their community. Please
consider joining. For information, please
see Yuri Butler or Vicki Idzik.

The
Youth Group is run by the active members
of the group. We are now more geared to
dealing with what the group wants to achieve
spiritually, while enjoying hanging out
with friends. We have an active agenda.
We have many other activities currently
in the planning stage
.

Our
youth group is unique in that everyone brings
something different to the table. We have
music nights, we talk about why we are different,
and why we choose that song or music. Along
with the music night, we do have a movie
night. We have lock-ins to get to know each
other better, and it allows us to be laid
back and forget about reality for awhile.
Our
group usually pays for half the price, and
we like to keep it that way. We need to
fund-raise; some ideas that we have are
car washes in the spring and selling candy.
The
main point is that for us to do more fun
things we need a more active attendance.
We would like to go on more retreats and
have more outings. |

Youth Group Activities and Projects:
-
DVDs- SMYG has produced three DVDs, produced by SMYG and starring SMYG members. Sales of these DVDs have contributed to our fundraising.
-
Spaghetti Dinners- The three DVDs were played for the congregation and invited guests, each on a different evening as each DVD was completed. Sometimes we have had dinners as fundraisers.
-
Bishop's Ball- This event will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Saint Paul's School for Girls.
-
Leaf Raking- Sometimes we assist the Men's Breakfast crew with chores around the church property.
