Shoemaking Techniques
Dru Shoemaker makes reproductions of medieval and renaissance
footwear using only top quality leather completely hand sewn with linen thread, bees
wax and pitch. Methods and materials used are as close to medieval
standards as possible. The only concession made for the modern environment
is the use of the thickest vegetable tanned leather available for the soles.
This adds to the comfort and longevity of the shoes for the modern wearer.
All shoes are sewn inside out on hand made wooden lasts,
then turned right side out. This method of construction has led to these
shoes often being referred to as turn-shoes.
