We started off by leveling a place in the yard. i neglected to take a picture of that stage. We took a water hose and laid out the shape that we wanted and then spray painted it on the ground.

We dug the first level to a depth of ~ 12". When we started the second level, we left a 12" wide shelf for plants.

We used the extra dirt to build up the waterfall and streambed.

We dug the second layer to a depth of 24" and there is a slope from the shallow end to the deep end.
