Weird TV is a weekly, hour long syndicated TV show that captivated me ever since I watched the first show in August. What's so cool is that the show has no purpose or clear meaning. Weird TV is made up of bits of video segments: some sent in from viewers, some from show regulars, some from show staff, some snippets of Wierd America (actual weird people being interviewed), and some random video distortion thrown in for good measure.

Is the show amusement, meaningful, or just a waste of time? Probably bits of these and more. Anyway, I enjoy it. I really don't know how popular the show is, or where it's broadcast, so I thought I'd give it a mention here. If I get the time I'll type up the credits for the show.

One of the best regular segments is "Shadoevision" starring one Shadoe Stevens, best known as the voice of Hollywood Squares. Or, do you remember Fred Rated, the spokesman for the old Federated stores? Shadoe now has a role on the CBS sitcom "Dave's World". Shadoevision as it appears on Weird TV is chopped up bits of some video release from a few years back. A totally-out-of-it Shadoe Stevens, decked out in a bright yellow jumpsuit and goggles, introduces and outroduces the segment each week. In hindsight, it appears those TV smashing commercials for Federated might not have been that much of an act.

In the credits, it mentions that some of the music used is from Sharkbait and Tinfed, which have releases on Primitech records. If your local music store has an indie or rock section, that would be the place to look. I found Tinfed's "Synaptic Hardware" so far. It's heavy metal, which isn't really my style, so I returned it. I get the feeling that until a "Weird TV soundtrack" CD is released, it'll be impossible to get the music regularly featured on the show.

I recently ran across "Burning Man Festival: A Film by Chuck Cirino", a 48 minute VHS video released by Primitech Records. I assume it includes all of the Burning Man segments that are often used in Weird TV.

More Weird TV videos! These three 45 minute videotapes are distributed by Unapix. The first tape is named "Scrapple". The second is "Reel Fall Out (with Oasis)" Third in the trilogy is "Net Escape".

My cable system just picked up the Sci-Fi Network, it sometimes shows segments of NewsWeird, now named World Wide Weird. I saw a segment of folks from some Southeast Asian country piercing parts of their face with swords, an anchor, and finally a swordfish! Another was a bit more tame, describing the life of a subterranean cave.

World Wide Weird can usually be seen directly after Mystery Science Theater 3000, which finishes Saturday afternoons at 1 or at 10 at night (Pacific time). So tune in five or six minutes early and check it out! In more good news, on June 22 1997 there was a whole half hour World Wide Weird show!
