Metros defeat winless pumas 1-0 for second victory in 2008
NASHVILLE, TN - The Palm Beach Pumas were just what the doctor ordered. Following a midweek defeat to the Bradenton Academics, the Nashville Metros got back in the win column following a 1-0 victory over the winless Pumas at Ezell Park on Saturday night. The Metros have already amassed as many wins in the current 2008 campaign as in all of last season.
The match started in a contentious manner as Palm Beach head coach was ejected after a heated engagement with the head referee following a booking of Josh Stewart in the 15th minute. The Pumas outshot Nashville 7-3 in the first half, but it was Kezi Lara who made the most of his chance in the 31st minute. Off of a corner kick from Nata Oropeza, Lara headed the ball past Palm Beach goalkeeper to the delight of the home fans.
The second half was a scoreless affair, as neither side managed a good chance on goal. Waldorf came closest for Palm Beach when he rocketed a shot from distance, but Kyle Roelke made the needed save to maintain his second clean sheet of the year.
The Metros will hit the road once again next week when they visit the Atlanta Silverbacks U23's for a Tuesday afternoon match. Then it is a trip to the Sunshine State for a Saturday night match against division leaders Central Florida Kraze and a Sunday night affair in Panama City to take on the expansion Pirates.
