"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

Oh yeah, like I'm "the greatest philosophizer in Ancient Greece." Well, if you're still tooling around my web site, I guess I oughta make something up. I hate disappointments, and you probably do too.

Actually, I'm quite fond of the writings of Douglas Adams. He's written the five book "trilogy" called the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as well as two books for his Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency series. His view on life and manner of describing it are slightly askew; it's light science fiction with a decidedly humorous touch. Actually, it's humor with a swab of science fiction. I dunno what it is, but it's friggin' funny. And sometimes there's some pretty insightful truths in there. Or, maybe I'm crackers. Regardless, I happen to like his work, and you should read it. Period.

Anything that happens, happens.
Anything, in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen.
Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.
It doesn't necessarily do it in chronological order, though.

"No, don't move...You'd better be prepared for the jump to hyperspace. It's unpleasantly like being drunk."
"What's so unpleasant about being drunk?"
"You ask a glass of water."

"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another that states that this has already happened."

I guess my strongest philosphies can be found in my song lyrics (in case you skipped over that part, I happen to be a songwriter whose prolific nature has yet to be fully realized.) Here are a few short pieces of songs I've written that happen to mean something to me. Oh, and don't even think about it - all lyrics are ©copyright Mark Gollihur.

Is this the great wisdom of childhood?
These memories and dreams...
The place we regress when reality isn't what it seems
We embraced the song in youth
Lacking the knowledge that experience brings
Now that we have come of age will we comprehend these things?

sometimes i wonder
does it matter
if i live my life right or not?
i'm thinking
if there's no payoff
i've tended my path for what?

losing my mind / shattered sanity / lost in time / and inanity
making no sense / fragments of fact / so intense / those sounds are back
voices in my head; they just won't go away

I live to run against the raging wind
Its gusting is a worthy foe
Would you care to run with me,
And seek the things we long to know?

I know my springtime in autumn
The cool grays illuminate me
Not a time for dying, but remembering
Of a time that used to be
the cool concept for this came from my buddy and band-mate, John Lewis

The sun rises, I gaze at the stars
I wash my feet in the sand
The gods of science and gods of faith
Are standing hand in hand
I see you speaking, I hear your gaze
As the wise man babbles his prose
The windless sky takes my kite so high
That our hearts can only suppose
