Eastwood Marries TV Journalist - Clint Eastwood and Salinas, Calif. television anchor Dina Ruiz have tied the knot. Warner Brothers says they were married in a private ceremony Sunday at the Las Vegas home of casino magnate Steve Wynn. Eastwood was reported to be all smiles when the couple picked up their marriage license. It was the first marriage for Ruiz and the second for Eastwood. His first marriage to Maggie Johnson ended in divorce. He also had long-term relationships with actresses Sandra Locke and Frances Fisher.
Reeve Resuming Career - Christopher Reeve is resuming his movie career as the voice of King Arthur. Reeve will be the voice of the legendary head of the knights of the Round Table in the animated feature "The Quest for Camelot." Reeve will record his dialogue in New York this summer. Reeve, who was paralzyed after a fall from a horse, made an emotional appearance at the Academy Awards last week. He urged Hollywood to keep making movies that deal with serious social issues.
An Heir for the Ex-Prince - The artist formerly known as Prince will soon have an heir. His publicist says the singer and his wife, Mayte Garcia, are expecting a baby in November. The publicist made the announcement yesterday, and insists it was not an April Fool's day joke. The baby is due in November, nine months after the couple were wed on Valentine's Day. It will be the first child for both.
ER Star to Direct Angel - Variety says "ER" star Eriq Lasalle has signed a deal to direct "Angel of Harlem" for HBO Pictures, with shooting starting in May when the NBC hit series goes on hiatus. While several of his castmates made deals to star in movies during their summer vacation, LaSalle's priority is to work behind the camera. "Angel" is the story of Earl Manigault, who, LaSalle said, is the best playground basketball player you never heard of. The story of Manigault is one of wasted potential as his career did not go in the direction of his incredible vertical leap.
Bankruptcy for Dorothy Hammill - A former Olympic gold medalist has filed for bankruptcy. Dorothy Hammill says she filed Chapter 11 because her financial matters were mishandled for nearly a decade. Hammill, whose wedge haircut was copied by young girls and women all over the country, was a gold medal winner figure skater during the 1970's and became a celebrity.
They Want Their MST3K - It's not often you hear calls for more bad television. But a full page ad in Weekly Variety demands just that. Fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 took out the $4,500 ad to denounce the Comedy Central cable channel's decision to cancel the show. The cult favorite uses a backdrop of really bad B-movies to showcase the talents of wise-cracking hecklers, who appear as silhouetted forms in front of a movie screen. The fans call the cancellation of MST3K, as it's known, a "crime against humanity." But Comedy Central is standing by its decision not to order new episodes of the low-rated series. It will air reruns until the end of 1996.
Crow Back From Bosnia - Sheryl Crow is back from touring U.S. military installations in Bosnia. First lady Hillary Clinton invited Crow on the tour but USA Today says apparently it's Chelsea Clinton who is the fan. Crow tells the newspaper Chelsea is centered and had a great sense of humor. Crow says she hopes to convince fellow musicians to make USO appearances. And the singer says her experience was so positive she hopes to play a few more bases.
Quinlan "Breakdown" - Kathleen Quinlan, who received an Oscar nomination for "Apollo 13" this year, has signed on to star in the action-thriller movie " Breakdown" with Kurt Russell, sources tell Variety. Quinlan plays a woman who convinces her husband (Russell) to travel cross country on the road after he quits his job. When their Jeep breaks down in the desert, she's kidnapped by a gang. She is finishing "Zeus and Roxanne" opposite Steve Guttenberg and begins rehearsals for "Breakdown' tomorrow.
More From the Hunchback - Touchstone Pictures has signed fihnmaker Alfonso Arau to direct "Quasimodo," a new film version of the "Hunchback of Notre Dame." CNN says the film is in planning stages as the anirnated version of "Hunchback" is being readied for a sununer release by Disney.
Townsend, Estefan Join Lineup - The lineup is growing for the "VH1-Honors" special. The show has added Pete Townsend and Gloria Estefan to the lineup. The special will air April 28, broadcast live from the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. Actor Tim Robbins will be the host.
