Dear Friends,
Seattle is a city that has always valued education and thrived
on the innovation and creativity of its people. We have one
of the best urban school systems in the country taking children
from kindergarten to
college-ready graduates of our high schools. We need to hold
on to that academic success as we face the budget challenges
ahead. I am seeking a
seat on the Seattle School Board to be an advocate for our
children, every one of whom deserves the best education we
can provide to meet life's challenges.
We face difficult choices, but if the goal of academic success
is kept foremost, we can navigate our budget woes to a sustainable
balance. The
State of Washington is recognizing its obligations to education
and increasing funding. We have an obligation as well to trim
our expenses responsibly
so no city or state leader can question our resolve and commitment
to getting the most out of our tax dollars.
The students of our public schools are nothing short of amazing.
We send graduates to the finest universities, film schools, art
schools, technical schools and colleges. Our high school bands
win awards across the country,
our student athletes dazzle us with their skills and success,
our drama programs make us laugh and cry. We need to celebrate
our children and their achievements,
their abilities and their shared experiences and realize that
our schools bind us together and teach us to work together. We
are pursuing a vision
that Superintendent John Stanford first articulated, a diverse
city that honors and embraces all its children and gives them
the tools to discover
their potential. As a School Board Director, I will pursue that
vision of world class education for all Seattle's children so they are ready for college and life's challenges.
They deserve nothing less. Please support me in pursuit of academic excellence and fiscal stability.
- Michael
