Content and Purpose of Course

In this course we will be covering the first half of the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 1 through Alma 29.  The purpose of the course is to get a deeper understanding of the Book of Mormon and the doctrines and principles it teaches.

Grading

First Exam 100 points
Second Exam 100 points
Final Exam 200 points
Reading for Class   50 points
Scripture Reading (second time)   50 points
Total 500 points

Note: Each class period has an assigned reading for it.  On each day of class I will pass a roll around for you to mark whether you have done the assigned reading. Each day will be worth 2 points and cannot be made up.  In addition to the reading for each class period, you can receive 50 points for reading the first half of Book of Mormon.  These are not extra credit points--if you don't do the extra reading you will loose the equivalent of half a test in points.

Class Preparation and Attendance

You should come to class each day having read the assigned portion of the Book of Mormon and be prepared to discuss it.  You should always bring a copy of the Standard Works with you to class.  Since a significant portion of the exam questions will be based on the classroom discussion, it is to your advantage to be there.  One or two absences may not hurt you, excessive absences will.  In cases of illness, family emergencies, etc. please see me.
