Chunky Piano Mitts

chunky piano mitts, or guitar mitts, or typist’s mitts
your fingers are free!

materials:
size 8 dpn
one skein Colinette Zanziba (51% wool, 48% viscose, 1% nylon)

gauge: 3.5 st/inch in stockinette stitch (too hard to measure in ribbing!)

co 28 st; join round, being careful not to twist
k2p2 rib for 20 rounds

thumb gore
At beginning of next round, increase 1 knitwise, k2, increase 1 knitwise (this is thumb gore foundation), continue in k2p2 rib for rest of the round.
rnds 2 and 3: k the k sts and and p the p sts
round 4: inc 1 st knitwise at each edge of thumb gore (round will start as inc 1 knitwise, k 4, inc 1 knitwise)
rnds 5 and 6: wk as in rounds 2 and 3
continue to increase in this manner (increase row, work 2 rows) until there are 12 st in gore
wk 2 more rnds

place thumb sts on waste yarn

co 2 st to replace the original 2 sts that are in thumb gore, join in a circle with rest of hand sts and complete the round in k2p2 rib
wk one more round
bind off in rib

put thumb sts on 3 needles
wk 2 rows k2p2
bind off in rib

work in ends and make another!
