An herb that has been used for centuries. This herb is used as a soak. This herb comes in two forms. One is a capsule and the liquid. I prefer to use liquid. When using capsules, I take the capsules and open them up into a pot of water. The tea will start to boil, I pull from heat. I allow it to cool until luke warm like a baby's bath. I then place the snake in a tub in the tea just like I would water. If using liquid all I do is put a dropper or droppers in the luke warm water, mix around and put the snake in.
The Pau d' Arco can be saved once used as long as it is still clean. I keep a tub of Pau d' Arco in my snake room at all times and just warm it back up by adding hot water or putting it in the microwave for about 40-60 seconds when needed. I change mine out bi-weekly. It is very inexpensive and can be purchased from Puritan's Pride. I buy mine when it's on sale usually buy one get 2 free. They have many sales throughout the year.
5 capsules equals 1 dropper
1 dropper for a 6qt tub
2 droppers for a 28qt tub
3-5 droppers for the bath tub
Troublesome Shedders:
It is very good in aiding a troublesome shedder. You will be amazed at how easily the shed will roll off. I start out soaking at interval of 30 minutes until the shed comes off with ease. The longest to date that I have ever had to soak was for 3 hours and this particular animal had at least 2 sheds stuck.
Dehydration:
I have used this also to treat dehydration. In many cases of dehydration the snake will refuse to drink. I used to use Pedialyte given by syringe. Recently, I have discovered that Pau D' Arco works much better as the snakes love it and will drink. They will sink down into and relax most not having any desire to get out. Of course, this is once they figure out what they're in. It's like they know that it's medicine. I have soaked snakes with full bellies many times and have never had a regurge.
Skin Ailments:
I have also used this tea to aid in the treatment of skin ailments such as scale rot, blister disease, or just minor skin irritations. The soak times vary for this as for the severity of the condition. Minors cases may only take 1-2 30 minute soaks per week whereas major cases may take 2-4 1 hour soaks per week. For scale rot and blister, I use this in combination with other medicine. These are described more in detail on the scale rot and blister pages.
Other Uses:
The most amazing way I have seen this work miracles for was when I received my Captive Hatch ball pythons from Africa in 2006. I received 2 babies that I've heard called sunken belly wrinkled babies. After soaking them for several weeks several times per week. They were normal looking. After the first soaking, I noticed a noticeable difference and each soak they looked even better. This is why I call it my miracle cure as most people told me I was wasting my time with those 2 and to just put them in the freezer. They currently reside in my collection today.
Testimonials
Hi ! I am David of DS Reptile Rescue, Removal &
Rehabilitation service in Lufkin Texas and when I first heard of Taheebo I didn't know what to think.
But all it took was to use it one time and I was hooked. I first used it on a Boa that had two layers of stuck sheds and I only had to
soak it for 40 min. and it just wiped off. This stuff has so many uses in treating reptile problems that
are some times hard to treat and it is as easy as a soak or oral intake by the reptile. It will help with scale rot, stuck shed, open wounds or
scratches and digestive problems. This being a all natural and herbal tea it will not harm them in any way shape or form.
So I say every one needs to use this tea on there reptiles and on themselves. GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOU DO!! David L. Schroeder
One day
I told Jane about a snake of mine that had a shedding problem she recommended that a try a tea called
Taheebo. I told her I had never heard of it, well a few days later she sent me some in the mail. and
I soaked a snake of mine in it that had retained shed!!! and wow about 2 layers of shed came off
in about 25 minutes. I was so happy. IT WORKS SO WELL!! Another snake of mine the escaped several months ago,
I recently found, she told me to soak him in it to re-hydrate him, and it worked!!
If you can trust anyone with you snake issues it would be Jane she is very social and friendly!
Thanks
