Favorite Links

If you have other favorite brewing links, email them to Steve Kranz and they might get listed here.  However, there are tons of beer and brewing links out there and we cannot possibly attempt to list them all here...just our members' favorites.

AHA - Beer Town  This is the home of the American Homebrewers Association, and its parent organization the Association of Brewers.  Traveling?  Look up brewpubs in your destination cities. Search the index to Zymurgy magazine articles.  Membership in the AHA is separate and not included in your club membership...biggest benefit is the bi-monthly Zymurgy magazine.  Also, a pub discount program, and discounted admission to the National Homebrewers Conference and discounted entry fees in the National Homebrew Competition.

Annapolis Home Brew is located in Severna Park, Maryland.  I've been there several times, and it's a nice shop.  Plenty of beer and wine extract kits.

Beer, Beer & More Beer  A vendor located in California who ships for free ($40 and over), and sells very cool stuff including stainless steel kettles and conical fermenters of varying sizes, three-tier brewing racks and systems, and Rubbermaid beverage coolers adapted for mashing and sparging.  Ask for a copy of their catalog...it's very well done and easier to browse then their web site.

Cats Meow 3 The web's online, searchable beer recipe database.  It's awesome.  Look in particular for Steve Kranz's recipe for Hot Chocolate, made with jalapeno peppers and real chocolate...yummm.

Engraving Creations is the vendor who supplied our most excellent custom engraved beer mugs.  Each member as of 12/1/06 received a mug with our logo and his/her name custom engraved beneath it.  They came out beautifully.  The prices are reasonable, service and communication are prompt, the work is outstanding, and the proprietors are friendly folks who worked with us to make our project turn out better than expected.

Esigns4u Custom Etched Glass
This vendor supplied the custom etched growlers which numerous members ordered, and which arrived just in time for our 2006 Holiday Party.  They are very similar to the work on the mugs by Engraving Creations (above), but the logo is a simpler version and the names are in a much larger, bolder font so they show up very well on the growlers.  As with the mugs, the work is exceptional, and everyone who ordered one (at a cost of $44 including shipping/handling) was very pleased with the results.

Fee State Homebrew Club Guild  is an association of Maryland homebrew clubs.  Not all Maryland clubs are represented, but we've been a member club for a number of years.  Our current Guild Representative is Melinda Byrd, who took an active role in preparing to host the National Homebrewers Conference in Baltimore (2005).  The Guild organizes numerous events, including an annual picnic, and an annual Christmas party at Clipper City Brewing Company.  You'll find links here to other member clubs.

Maryland Homebrew is a homebrew supply shop in Columbia which offers our members a 10% discount.  Mostly well-stocked, lots of specials on malt extracts, and I like the self-serve grain bins...get as much or as little of any kind of grain, crushed or whole.  Lots of wine kits, and a good selection of hops, dry & liquid yeasts including the "pitchable" strains from White Labs.

Northern Brewer is another good online supplier located in Minnesota.  They have an excellent variety of goods, at very competitive prices.  I recommend requesting their catalog...it makes for fun browsing.

Party Pig Home Page where you can get information, and order online, Party Pigs and accessories.

Pro Mash Home Page Pro Mash is another brewing software package, much more detailed than SUDS.  You can download a trial version from this link.  It looks good, but it seems overly complicated from what I've seen of it so far...too much so for me.  Even though I've now bought and paid for it, I still don't use it.  Darn...I should'a spent that money on beer.  Personally, I'm still sticking with SUDS.

Real Beer Page Large beer and brewing area with lots to read and plenty of other links.

rec.crafts.brewing newsgroup is very active, and supportive of brewers of all experience levels.

Suds Home Page Download a fully functional demo of SUDS brewing software.  The only limitation placed on your free use (i.e. without a registration code) is an increasingly annoying timer page.  The program hasn't been updated in two years, but I still use it for every batch and every recipe.  [NOTE: If you use it after the 30 day evaluation period, you should pay the developer.]

Wensel's Counterpressure Filler.  Get the same filler used at Clay Pipe Brewing Company to bottle Midnight Special Pale Ale!  Sold directly by the manufacturer.

Williams Brewing is another mail order supplier from California.  Their catalog and web site are nice and well-organized.  They also have some brewing hardware which I have not found commonly available elsewhere.
