Virginia Patriots, Inc., was contracted to provide six interpreters, all from the year 1901, to help make the grand re-opening of historic Main Street Station to regular rail passenger traffic a memorable event. Michael Wells, in an authentic 1901railroad conductor's uniform and cap, was the Master of Ceremonies for the arrivals of two Amtrak trains filled with dignitaries, and presided over a spike-driving ceremony later inside the 1901 Beaux-Arts railway station. Below left are Michael and Valli Anne Trusler after the unveiling of a poster of an original artwork to commemorate the opening. Below right is Kevin Grantz as a working-class Richmonder, announcing the event streetside. Below center, an Amtrak train from Newport News breaks the ribbon and confetti flies during a reopening ceremony at the renovated Main Street Station. Regularly scheduled passenger service begins there today. (Photo credit MARK GORMUS/TIMES-DISPATCH)
