Die Cut Project - Background

Did you ever wish you knew the correct piece count for a Springbok puzzle? Wouldn't this knowledge be handy if you were buying a puzzle, and the seller had counted the pieces, but hadn't worked the puzzle?

The above situation happened to me more than once, and I quickly grew tired of buying incomplete puzzles. I decided to educate myself about die cuts and piece counts. Thus began a continuing project of methodically collecting and cataloging die cut data for each puzzle.

Die Cut Project - Using the Data

As of January 2007, data has been collected for 559 different puzzle/die cut combinations. (Wow!) This would have been impossible without the outstanding efforts of many tireless Contributors.

The fruits of the Die Cut Project are available at your fingertips.
  • Under each individual puzzle, the "Confirmed Cuts" are listed.
(Keep in mind that additional cuts may remain to be discovered.)
  • The "Thumbnail" pages show a photo and details of each die cut.

  • The clever puzzler can use the data to:
  • Predict puzzle completeness (based on piece count and die identification).
  • Do Lost Piece Matching.
  • Take them wherever their ingenuity leads.

  • See Die Naming to understand how the dies are named.

    Enjoy!

Die Cut Project - You Can Help!

Collecting comprehensive die cut data for each puzzle is an ongoing project. There are many puzzles for which I'm sure additional cuts exist (especially the circulars and octagonals). I would guess at least 200 additional puzzle/die cut combinations remain to be cataloged.

You can help! The next time you work a puzzle, fill in a Die Cut Submission Form and email it to me at the address shown on the home page. All Contributors are Welcome!
