My personal arms (to the right) are: Or, a two-headed snake erect, gules.This is what I display formally, and sometimes I quarter it with my badge--probably breaking many rules of SCA heraldry by so doing. I think it looks cool, so I'll keep doing it until the heraldry police make me stop. My name and arms are registered and passed by the Laurel. My personal motto is, "Sub Rosa," which means "Under the Rose"--a medieval Latin idiom meaning "confidentially"--which also provides a wonderful pun on my name. (It’s also a mundane legal term.)

My personal badge (to the left) is: Azure, upon an inverted pile, or, a heraldic rose, gules, slipped and seeded proper. I am allowed by SCA rules to use my badge any way I see fit, and the way I see fit is to use the main charge, the rose, as my household badge. The personal badge is registered and passed by Laurel. The household name and badge are not. Household members may use the rose pretty much however they want. Apprentices may put it on their belts. I use it to mark items of personal and household property and as a decorative motif on lots of my stuff. The arms I think of as a signature, the badge like a family monogram. The household also has a motto, Meus Volo Propriis, which means, "I fly on my own wings." Household members are also free to use the motto as they wish.

Thorns

The Thorns of Wild Rose also have a badge (unregistered) and motto. The badge (right) is: Or, in saltire, two rose branches, vert, barbed sable. The motto is Ferro Ignique, which means, "With sword and flame." The baldric that the Thorns wear has the badge and motto on it.
