The map of the Fern Canyon Trail.

A 3D view of the trail facing west.

We gained more than a quarter mile of elevation on a hike of less than two miles. It was a bad day to be out of shape.

Eric goes over the evenings plan.

The trailhead is just on the edge of suburbia. The woman who's home is nearby came out to offer us water and shelter should we need it after the hike. What a pleasant surprise, with so many people in our party I was afraid that she might have been bothered by all the noise and traffic.

After reaching the saddle between Bear Peak to the southwest and a smaller peak to the northeast, we stopped for the evening. The skyline to the west was beautiful with the final glow of sunset.

The full moon and Boulder peeking out from between the trees.

All fourteen of us.
