Here's a picture of my 1949 John Deere Styled G when I found it.

Here's the story about my 1949 John Deere Styled G.

When I was about 19 year's old I bought my first tractor it was a Allis Chalmers WD45. I got it from a local farmer that was retiring from farming. When I got it I had to do some things to make it run but it wasn't anything like I'm going to do to this John Deere G I have now. I also had a Farmall H it to wasn't anything like my John Deere G restoration now. Now I'm 35 year's old and wiser I think so. So I'm going to do a complete  restoration on the John Deere G. I'm basically changing every bearing, and every part that is worn out on the tractor in the above picture. I would like to add I started with a pretty good John Deere G to start with. I always wanted a two cylinder tractor but I never got one until now. I got the John Deere G from a man in Pa. in February 2005. I heard he had one but it was not for sale. I called him and I asked him if he would sell me the John Deere G. It took a little but all said and done I got the John Deere G. When I was going over the transmission I found it had a broken countershaft I got a good used one to replace it with. Also found a small crack in the block between the cylinder's having it repaired now. Also was a crack in the head stud hole also having it fixed now. And I'm having the clutch side spline's redone on the crank shaft and getting the crank reground also. Also having one of the brake shaft's redone. The John Deere G was in pretty good shape for being a 1949. The shifter shows very little wear on the shaft were its in contact with the shifter quadrant assembly. I don't think the tractor had a real ruff life when it was used. I was told that the old man had it to brush hog about 10 acres of land. The tear down I did on the tractor tells me that it was probably true it looked very good in side of the tractor. Also the pedestal was cracked in the left front side, the old man hit a tree with the tractor. And they tried to repair it by stick welding it and they did a botch job fixing it. Also a few of the welds were cracked on the front frame, from when it hit the tree. I will be using the tractor for antique tractor pulling when it is all put back together. Also if anyone knows of a 6.50 power block that is not cracked or welded that is for sell let me know about it. With the help from the Johnny Popper board and Yesterday's Tractor board and all the people that put me in the right direction. I hope to have the John Deere G back together by spring or over the winter. I also have a Drag Race car I run on the 1/4 mile strip. It is a Mustang Cobra 1996 with about 1000hp 1/4 mile time's of ET/MPH 8.70/165. Again thanks for all the help.
