About Us

Hello.  Our names are Todd and Lisa Porter and we live in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.  We call our kennels 'minnAKKota Kennels' as a way of establishing the presence of the Alaskan Klee Kai breed in our home state of Minnesota.  We are a virtual kennel as we do not have kennel runs and all 4 dogs are house pets.

We first learned about the breed in January 1998 at the 'Sportsman Show' in St. Paul, MN.  A man working one of the booths had his Alaskan Klee Kai with him.  As most everyone is, we were captivated by this little husky.  Using the internet for more info, we contacted Eileen Gregory to learn more and to get on her waiting list.  In June '98 we made our first trip down to Colorado to visit with Eileen and see her kennels and in October of 1998 we were fortunate enough to get our first Alaskan Klee Kai.  The road since has included trips to Colorado for the annual AKK picnic, to Michigan for the annual UKC premier show, and back to Colorado twice more to pick up 2 other dogs.

We currently own 4 Alaskan Klee Kai, three females and one male.  Their names are Sukkaliyok Nakit Alasco, Sierra Bear, Porter's Minnikota and MinnAKKota's Sausimiyok.  Our dogs are more than just pets, they are members of our family.

Our dogs have attended obedience training.  We have done both traditional training methods and clicker training.  We feel these dogs do better with positive reinforcement and are happy so far with the results.

We are strongly dedicated to helping this breed grow in sound health, existence and public awareness.  Both of us are voting members of AKKAOA (Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America) and Lisa served as an alternate member on the AKKAOA board of directors. All our dogs are showered with love and are a very intricate member of the family.  Our goal as breeders is to place a puppy in the right home.

It is important that people know we prefer to not ship our puppies.  It can be traumatic for an small 8 week old puppy and we like to take this opportunity to meet the new owners in person.  An AKK puppy is small and can travel in the passenger cabin of a plane, if you are not within driving distance.  We respect that this may influence your desire to adopt a puppy from us.

We do have a waiting list, and no deposit money is required.  The wait for an AKK puppy can be long, but well worth it.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not actively breeding at this time and therefore are not accepting new applications/questionnaires.

PLEASE NOTE: With the number of inquiries we receive & the length of our waiting list we typically correspond with people initially via e-mail.  That means if a puppy is available to you we will be contacting you by e-mail.  If your e-mail address changes, please contact us with the change.  If we are unable to reach you via e-mail and/or the e-mail is returned, we will most likely have to remove you from our list.

Thanks for visiting our website, please feel free to contact us with any questions.
