PEOPLE
The culture of the Commander Aleuts is original and uncommon. It is a synthesis of the ancient culture of the Aleutian Islands, the culture of the Russian colonists, and the Creole population of Russian America.

ANIMALS
Many inhabitants of the Commander Islands are rare and listed in the Russian and IUCN Red Data Books. Among them are harbor seals, sea otters, Arctic foxes (sub-species from Mednyi Island), almost all whale species, glaucous-winged gulls, red-legged kittiwakes, peregrine falcons, gyrfalcons, and emperor geese.

NATURE
Almost all insular living creatures are connected with the sea or depend upon it. That is why the possibility of preservation of clear ocean waters and untouched marine environment will determine the fate of the Commander Islands unique nature.

The artist, I. Viuev, has devoted himself to the revival of Aleutian national art, its technique, style, and striking spirituality in depicting the nature and life of the inhabitants of the Beringia.
