Resume/Credentials

The famous American writer Ernest Thompson Seton, who wrote wonderful stories about Nature, said many years ago: "I came to know how terrible it was to feel thirsty. I've been trying to dig some wells, so that from them other people could drink too." That's why I'm sure that our efforts to preserve the unique environment of the Commander Islands is so important for future generations. They are a way to get closer to our personal God. The Association unites people of good-will who strive for the preservation of the unique natural environment which exists on the Commander Islands. Without help, these beautiful islands face grave danger. These people will seek to solve the existing problems by the following paths:

1. Appealing to the Russian Government by letter to stop any industrial, commercial fishing activity in the special protection zone (30 nautical miles wide) near the Commander Islands.

2. Appealing to the Russian Government by letter to create from the Commander Nature Reserve some form of a Bioshare Reserve under the aegis of UNESCO.

3. Providing financial support for repairing and recreating on Mednyi Island (Gladkovskaia Bay), an International Scientific Laboratory, which will monitor and control the condition of the ecosystem in this unique part of the Northern Pacific. Also, it will be a good place to attract tourists from different countries.

4. Providing biological training at the scientific base on Gladkovskaia Bay, for students from different countries.

5. Providing financial support for the special expedition programs, which help protect endangered species on the Islands, such as unique subspecies of Arctic Fox on Mednyi Island, and sea otters, Steller's sea lions and local subspecies of peregrine falcon.

6. Establishing a special program for involving and educating the small population of Aleutian People.

7.Publishing more papers about the unique natural environment of the Commander Islands, and detailing issues and problems standing in the way of preserving this area.
