Miss Pennsylvania Biography

Shannon Doyle

Shannon Doyle, Miss Pennsylvania 2009, is a third year medical student at the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she will receive her Doctor of Medicine.  Shannon has received academic honors in her first and second years of medical school and has been accepted into the Pathology and Foundations of Clinical Medicine honor societies.  In 2007, Shannon earned her Bachelors of Science in Biology from Villanova University, Summa cum laude, and a minor in Geography.  Shannon is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, Phi Kappa Phi honor society, Alpha Epsilon Delta honor society for pre-medical students, and the Beta Beta Beta Biological honor society.  In 2003, Shannon graduated from E. L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with a 4.0 GPA and was named Valedictorian of her senior class.  During her senior year of high school, Shannon was also named Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Young Woman for 2003.  Shannon has received several awards from the Miss America Organization, including the academic and community service awards.

Shannon is an accomplished dancer in tap, jazz, lyrical, and ballet.  She has been a student and instructor at the David Blight School of Dance in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania for the past eighteen years.  Shannon will be performing a tap routine for the talent portion in the Miss America pageant.

During her year of service, Shannon will utilize her title of Miss Pennsylvania to promote her platform entitled, Home Away from Home: Enriching the Lives of Hospitalized Children.  The goal of this program is to create a more welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for terminally ill children during their stays at the hospital.  “Wear A Smile” is the fundraising portion of Shannon’s platform, where she promotes “smiley face” bracelet sales through speaking engagements at elementary schools.  It is Shannon’s hope that she can expand her program to benefit children's hospitals throughout the Commonwealth.

Shannon is excited to extend her platform to the national level as an advocate and fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network.  She has already hosted a “Kids Dancing for Kids” dance-a-thon to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.  Additionally, Shannon has authored a children’s book, Just the Way God Made Me, a compassionate narrative teaching children to overcome life's challenges.  Once published, all profits will benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

Shannon is the daughter of Patrick and Maureen Doyle and was raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  She has three brothers, Patrick, 29, Kevin, 28, and Brian 23.
