We Need Results!
WHY?
Basically, there is a need to publish volleyball results. If results can be published and made available, it helps create interest in our teams and our sport. It creates additional visibility and publicity. It encourages reporting on our matches because it allows reporters to have enough information at their disposal to write informed articles. It creates anticipation for matches when teams who are having excellent seasons are playing in an upcoming match and everyone can see how they have performed throughout the year.
Additional benefits include: creating an accountability for results and facilitating season-ending awards.
WHO can do the results?
For the conference standings: ideally, a coach within the conference should do it, but, really, anyone connected to a team (parent, trusted fan, teacher) can do this. This isn't national security. We just want some method for the results to be verified by an authority.
HOW do we gather league results?
The best way is to have email addresses (or other means of contact) to the league coaches and get the results directly. However, pulling results from newspapers is a reasonable alternative. Since the results are published here and there is a method for resolving disputed results, there is at least some accountability.
WHAT do I need to do if I know how to create web pages?
A) If you already host a web page with the results posted, provide us with a link directly to the results page, and we will post the link. Just Email Alex Perrin.
B) If you have the ability to create web pages and prefer to design your own, provide us with a file that we will screen and post. Email Alex Perrin with your plans and he will work with you from there.
WHAT do I need to do if I'm not a computer expert?
1. Have access to email and be able to send and receive attachments 2. Have the ability to type what you want into a word processor. 3. Email Alex Perrin and let him know that you would like to do the standings for your conference. He will discuss a number of options available to you based on software you may have available. Microsoft Word would probably be easiest. 4. Be willing to be patient with coaches from whom it may not be easy to obtain results.
In other words, if you are willing to do it, we can help make it happen. Please contact us if you think you might. I've been doing it for several years and can share with you any potential potholes you may encounter.
