Tang Soo Do is translated as "Way of the Tang Hand",
referring to the Tang Dynasty in China (618 to 907 A.D.). It is also
commonly referred to as "Korean Karate". In 1945, Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee developed a style of Tang Soo Do, which has become one of the more
popular Korean Martial Arts practiced around the World. It derives many
of its techniques from Northern/ Southern Chinese Kung Fu, Okinawan and
Japanese martial systems . In addition, the forms or Hyung practiced
are taken from Okinawan/Japanese Karate, along with a few derived from
the Chinese styles. Tang Soo Do is a balanced system, favoring a 60/40
split between leg and hand techniques. In addition, the self defense
techniques practiced include wrist controls and some throwing/take down
methods.
Our school does not participate in tournaments. Our
focus is the study of the Art of Tang Soo Do and Master Jong H. Lee's
Philosophy which leads to personal betterment. "Self" is paramount in
the terms self-control, self-reliance, self-discipline, etc as these
principles make up the very foundation of our study.
Personal participation is the best method to introduce a
student seeking any martial arts school. Please visit us and take
advantage of this great opportunity. There are of course no fees to
"try out".
