Promotions and Relegations

Promotions and Relegations-Season 4

Promotions and relegations could potentially be handled in one of two ways in season 4.  With the number of drivers returning and the likelihood of many more drivers joining in something had to be done.  All would agree that the fastest drivers worked there way through the divisions last season, and found themselves fighting it out come seasons end.  Given that our numbers could grow to 32, 4 divisions, the fast drivers starting in D4 would have to be perfect to make their way to D1 by week 6, and with the divisional lock down occurring after week 8’s promotion/relegation there is little or no room for error.  With that in mind the following will be the format put in place for season 4.  There are 2 scenarios each based on the number of drivers participating at the beginning of the season.

Scenario 1,

·         24 drivers or less.

·         Drivers will be divided into 3 divisions.  Veteran drivers will be ranked and assigned divisions based on Season 3’s hot lap rank.  The fastest to D1, second fastest to D2, etc.  The rookies will continue filling in where the veterans left off.  That is to say, if 18 veterans return, than the fastest rookie, based on qualifying times, would fill spot 19, second fastest rookie would fill spot 20, etc.

·         Promotions and relegations will occur following weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8.  The 2 drivers with the highest point total would be promoted; the 2 drivers with the lowest point total would be relegated.  Tiebreaker would be the sum of the total race time to that point in the season.

·         Points would be awarded as follows, for weeks 1-6 all divisions would race for the same number of points, 10 for the win, 8 for second, 7 for third, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2 for eighth.  For weeks 7-11, D1 would receive points as follows 12 for the win, 10 for second, 9 for third, 8, 7, 6, 5, and 4 for eighth.  Divisions 2 and 3 would continue to receive points in the same manner as in the previous weeks.

Scenario2,

·         25-32 drivers.

·         Drivers will be divided into 4 groups.  Veteran drivers will be ranked and assigned groups based on Season 3’s hot lap rank.  The fastest to G1, second fastest to G2, etc.  The rookies will continue filling in where the veterans left off.  That is to say, if 18 veterans return, than the fastest rookie, based on qualifying times, would fill spot 19, second fastest rookie would fill spot 20, etc.

·         Following week 2, the two drivers in each group with the highest point total will be assigned to Division 1, the 2 drivers with the third and fourth highest point total would be assigned to D2, 5th and 6th to D3, 7th and 8th to D4.  Tiebreaker would be the sum of the total race time to that point in the season.

·         Promotions and relegations will occur following weeks 4, 6, and 8.

Divisions 2, 3, and 4 would continue to receive points in the same manner as in the previous weeks.
