Welcome to the Micheal Hinz Webpage
I first started writing stories for fun when I was ten years old, growing up on the edges of Los Angeles, California. My father owned a small restaurant in North Hollywood, and in summers I was expected to put in my share of work in the kitchen. It was hard work, and I found my relaxation in reading and writing.
After graduating from Granada Hills High school, I enlisted in the United States Air Force, where I was trained as a stationary engineer. For my entire four year enlistment I was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. My duties consisted of operating a boiler plant—an ideal job for writing, since it allows for plenty of free time. About the time my term of enlistment was over, the position I occupied was turned into a civilian job. I was fortunate in being able to return to the same job as a civilian, making more money for doing the same work!
While on active duty I met a nursing student attending Fort Wright College of the Holy Names in nearby Spokane. I have been married to Lolly since 1974. Lolly’s mother was a published author, so I shared an interest with my new mother-in-law. The same year Lolly graduated from college I enrolled at Fort Wright, pursuing a degree in English Literature. I completed my degree with honors in 1980, and set about writing. I soon discovered what a challenge it is to write while raising two daughters and working! In addition, there were other activities to compete with my time, such as camping, hiking, bicycling, and showing and racing pigeons and caged birds. I am also am involved with amateur radio, and am active in the local chapter of the Amateur Radio Emergency Services.
My first published work was an article in Reason magazine, a national political publication with a circulation of around thirty thousand. Following this and another article sold to Reason, I published various articles in specialty journals, but concentrated my efforts on writing books, a medium I find more satisfying. So far, I’ve completed four books: two novels and two works of nonfiction.
My first published book was How to Argue With an Atheist, a book which explains how to present religious ideas to nonbelievers in a rational, logical manner. I am not, however, a "religious writer," but wrote the book as a means of clarifying certain ideas on the topic in my own mind.
I then turned my attention to novel writing. The result was Satan’s Gold, a treasure hunting adventure story about an exciting search for the greatest treasure known to exist, as well as one of the biggest mysteries in history.
Both books are available from Xlibris, or may be ordered Amazon.com or any major bookseller.
My latest book, Free Campgrounds of Eastern Washington is available from Lulu Books.
