Martin Luther King, Jr.
is to benefit individuals
by providing technology resources necessary for enhancing job skills and
gaining access
to employment information and opportunities. We are committed to providing technology learning and access opportunities in an environment that encourages exploration and discovery.

Our vision is to share our technology resources to help maximize the strengths of partner organizations in order to enhance access for all to information and opportunities.
The Center was founded by a partnership of public and private organizations in 1996 as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Apartments Business Technology Center with the recognition that in a society increasingly shaped by technology, people who are socially and/or economically disadvantaged will be left further behind if they lack access to computers. The Center re-opened in October 2006 with upgraded hardware and software and a new name, First Step Technology Center.
Currently, we are developing collaborative agreements with other community agencies who provide services to clients who would benefit from technology access and skills.
